What Size Truck Do I Need?

What Size Truck Do I Need?

The to-do list to move can seem never-ending! Starting with the right truck rental can help pave the way for as stress-free of a move as possible. You need to pinpoint the correct size that will save you money as well as fit all of your belongings. You do not want to be stuck having to transport additional items or make more than one trip because your moving truck rental is too small. Or on the flip side, you do not want your items sliding and possibly becoming damaged because there is too much room in the back – plus, it is money that could have been better spent elsewhere.

Here are two guiding factors to help you pinpoint the proper sized moving truck. At Elite Truck Rental, we have 15-foot, 16-foot and 24-foot box trucks as well as Econoline vans.

By the Room Numbers

After you have taken stock of exactly what you have, you can consider the number of rooms that you are moving from to help guide your decision on your moving truck rental. This is a simple way to estimate the size of vehicle needed to get your belongings to your new place. These estimates are based on a typical amount of belongings. At the lower end, an apartment can typically fit into one of our Econoline vans. A 3- to 4-room smaller home can be accommodated in our 15-foot box truck rental, while our 16-foot box truck rental can hold about 4 to 5 rooms’ worth of stuff. The benefit of our 16-foot rental is that it has a power liftgate, which can ease the loading and unloading process. Our largest available truck is our 24-foot option that can handle nine rooms or more. This largest option also includes a power liftgate and e-track rails.

By the Cubic Feet

If you prefer more precise calculations, you can take measurements of your home to help guide the rental decision by cubic feet. A general rule of thumb is that you allow for 150 to 200 cubic feet of space per fully furnished room. Our rentals are also broken down by cubic feet available. Our vans have 250 cubic feet of space, our 15-foot trucks have 725 cubic feet, our 16-foot trucks have 800 cubic feet and our 24-foot truck has 1,300 cubic feet of space.
