The thought of moving can bring many other thoughts that include your worries, anxiety and overwhelming sense of what tasks need to be completed. A thought that may not cross your mind: Not everything you own should be packed up in a moving truck. There are some things that are best in other spots or disposed of properly.
Check out these items before you pack up to go:
Hazardous items: Chemicals can be dangerous all packed up in your moving truck. Old paint cans, pesticides, acids and cleaning solvents should be disposed of at your neighborhood recycling center as you are packing up and getting ready to move.
Flammable pieces: Bottles or canisters or gas, propane or kerosene could become very dangerous if there was an accident. You do not want any of these flammable items packed up in the back of your box truck while you are moving.
Other chemicals: If you are unsure about the safety of transporting a chemical in your moving truck, then it is probably safer to not pack it up and away in the back. Pool chemicals, fertilizer, weed killer, ammonia and other cleaning solvents can all become dangerous. Our team is happy to answer your questions if you are worried about any of the items you are wanting to move.
Plants and greenery: If you have many house plants that you want to tag along to your next home, it is best to make other arrangements. They will not be able to withstand the heat of the back of a box truck, and they can be a driving hazard in the front of the cab.
Valuable items: Whether they have sentimental or monetary value, your most precious belongings should not be packed away and unattended in the back of a box truck. These need to be kept where you will be able to keep track of them. Ask a friend or family member to help with these by transporting them safely in your personal vehicle or on a specific trip in the truck if they are too large.
Personal documents: Any important papers – and of course cash – need to be monitored and kept safe as well. Your passports, birth certificates, social security cards, financial documents and medical records should be kept together and with a family member at all times.
