Moving Back to Campus Safely

Moving Back to Campus Safely

As summer rolls along, our college students are gearing up to get back to it and return to campus for another year of college. While it is a move, a college transition is different from a full-fledged home-to-home or apartment-to-apartment transition. Here our team looks at some tips to get there safely and efficiently.

  1. Make connections If you are moving into a dorm space with someone you do not know, it is best to connect beforehand, to not only get to know your roommate, but also to coordinate bringing items. You can share the responsibility of purchasing needed dorm items, such as a mini fridge, microwave or any furniture. There are many social channels for students and parents to get to know the campus community and ask questions too.
  2. Know the schedule Be on top of the timeline of moving in early. You will find that the weekend to move onto campus will be crazy with so many students and families in one place at one time. Know your college’s schedule and what they will need to have on-hand to move in – student ID, paperwork, dorm name and room number. If possible avoid peak move-in times to have more access to elevators and carts.
  3. Pack with a plan Depending on how far away your campus is, you will probably not be home anytime soon to pick up items that you may have forgotten. Have a checklist and keep track of your packed items in boxes that are clearly labeled. You can find helpful checklist tools online or talk to a college friend to get a good idea of what exactly you will need in your dorm. You can pick up needed moving boxes from our Elite Truck Rental team in a variety of sizes. We have small boxes, medium boxes, large boxes and wardrobe boxes for your larger items. You can also pick up tape to securely and safely box up your belongings for the trip there.
  4. Get a moving rental Having a van or box truck can help you get everything you need for your dorm during one trip. Our Elite fleet includes Econoline vans and 15-foot trucks. Our vans have 250 cubic feet of space available to pack up with all of your dorm stuff. If you are moving into a sorority or fraternity and have larger furniture, you could rent our smallest box truck. This will hold more boxes and larger pieces of furniture.
