How to Choose the Right Rental Vehicle for Your Needs

How to Choose the Right Rental Vehicle for Your Needs

When you are selecting a rental vehicle for your move, you need to balance not spending more than you have to with having enough room to pack everything in and not make more trips than necessary. There is no secret formula to this decision, but there are tips to follow to assist with your decision.

Take the Time to Plan Ahead

A successful and less stressful move comes down to having a plan in place. To help you determine what size truck rental that you need to move, you need to review how much stuff you really have. Survey your larger items and do not forget what is typically outside, such as grills, patio furniture and garage supplies. Keep in mind items that will not fit in a moving box.

Now that you have an idea of your overall size of belongings, you can match this to our trucks or vans here at Elite Truck Rental. We have more than 150 vehicles on-site to fit your move. We typically organize our vehicles in two ways: by number of rooms or by cubic feet of space. These parameters are indicative of what can fit into what trucks or vans.

For example, our Econoline vans are typically best for an apartment move, special event or home improvement project supplies. The vans will work for smaller homes as well with 250 cubic feet of space in the back. On the opposite side of the spectrum are our 24-foot moving rental trucks that can fit up to nine rooms worth of belongings with 1,300 cubic feet of space in the back. Our larger trucks have power liftgates to assist you when you are loading and unloading your items. There are also E-track rails.

In between these two opposites are our 15-foot and 16-foot rental trucks for anywhere from three to five rooms worth of stuff. The larger truck of these two has 800 cubic feet in the back while the 15-foot truck has 725. It is helpful to think of needing 150 to 200 cubic feet of space in a rental per furnished room in your home.

No matter how much you calculate and review, it is an estimation process. If your rooms are packed with items and furniture, then it is better to err on the side of caution by bumping up to the larger rental available. You do not want to be stuffing stuff in your car’s trunk or back seat to make it work.
